Overwatch 2 Ilios Guide
Master/GM Tips for Torbjörn, Doomfist (Tank), Ashe, Ana, and Kiriko
Ilios is split into three sub-maps—Well, Lighthouse, and Ruins—each with unique terrain, sightlines, and flank routes. Below, you’ll find in-depth guidance for five heroes (Torb, Doom, Ashe, Ana, Kiriko) covering:
Optimal Positioning and Rotations
Key Ability Usage and Best Combos
Playstyle Adjustments per Sub-Map
Major Counters and Matchups
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Team Compositions and Synergies
TORBJÖRN (DPS)
1. Positioning and Rotations
General Philosophy: Torbjörn thrives by setting up crossfires with his turret and himself. Reposition turret often (cooldown is only 10s) to keep enemies guessing. Always maintain an escape route—Torb has no real mobility, so cover is your lifeline.
Well:
Turret Spots: Near the side health pack building or around the walls at the edge of point. Placing a turret that covers the objective but hides behind a wall/object keeps it alive longer.
Movement: Rotate between corners if your turret is quickly destroyed. Watch out for boops into the central pit—stay a few steps back from the well’s edge.
Engagements: Use Overload to brawl or survive dives; swap turret position mid-fight if it’s being destroyed repeatedly.
Lighthouse:
Turret Spots: Behind pillars or in the small side room on the point for safer coverage. Alternatively, set it on a high ledge for broader LOS (but more vulnerable to poke).
Movement: Tuck into the back room or around the lighthouse to escape pressure. Move turret if the enemy begins focusing it too easily.
Ruins:
Turret Spots: High stone ledges or tucked behind pillars for partial cover. Consider hidden “cheeky” spots in bushes to surprise the enemy.
Movement: In a sniper-heavy environment, rely on cover to avoid long-range hits. Reposition turret frequently—don’t keep it in the same spot each fight.
2. Ability Usage & Combos
Turret: Short cooldown, so don’t be afraid to demolish and redeploy. Avoid placing it out in the open; find partial cover or elevation. If dived, fight back with Rivet Gun rather than just hammering the turret.
Rivet Gun:
Primary Fire (longer range, arcing projectile): Good for medium poke or finishing low HP targets.
Secondary Fire (shotgun burst): Massive close-range damage; combine with Overload for surprising duels.
Combo Tip: You can animation-cancel a primary shot recovery with an immediate secondary shot for a burst of damage.
Overload: Use it as a mini-ultimate in close fights—boosts fire rate, reload speed, and grants extra armor. Reload before activating it for maximum DPS uptime.
Molten Core (Ultimate): Area denial tool—spread out lava pools rather than stacking them. Especially lethal in choke points or on slow-moving tanks. If the fight is on the objective, drop lava to cut off exits or trap enemies.
3. Playstyle Differences
Well: Close-quarters, small point. Lock down the objective with turret angles, keep Overload ready for brawls, and watch for boops near the pit.
Lighthouse: More cover and indoor fights; set turret to control side rooms or main courtyard. Rotate high/low ground to support the team and punish divers.
Ruins: Longer sightlines with frequent snipers. Play mid-line and use turret to pester or peel for backline. Turret’s easier to destroy, so stay mobile and rely on your Rivet Gun.
4. Counters & Matchups
Big Threats:
Pharah/Junkrat: Quick turret destruction with splash damage. Hide turret under ledges or in corners.
D.Va: Can fly in, Defense Matrix your shots, and kill turret easily. Focus D.Va with shotgun bursts rather than just hammering turret.
Widow/Ashe: Snipe turret from beyond its range. Place turret behind cover or on off-angles.
Sombra: Hacking turret disables it, but Sombra must remain exposed to do so—try to spot or pressure her first.
5. Common Mistakes
Babysitting Turret Too Much: If it’s going down, use that moment to shoot the attacker instead of hammering helplessly.
Predictable Turret Placements: Repeatedly using the same spot lets enemies pre-fire. Change locations often.
Late/Unused Overload: Pop it proactively when the fight starts or you sense a dive. Don’t die with Overload off cooldown.
Molten Core Overlaps: Spread lava for better zoning. Dumping all pools in one spot is wasteful.
Standing in Open Sightlines: Especially on Ruins, use cover to avoid easy picks. Stay mindful of boop hazards on Well.
6. Team Compositions & Synergies
Best With:
Brawl or Poke Tanks (Rein, Orisa, Sigma) who hold space so your turret can function safely.
Brig, Ana, Baptiste supports who can peel or provide burst healing. Molten Core + Bap’s window is lethal.
Any mid-range DPS (Cassidy, Reaper) that complements your turret and helps with flankers.
Kiriko Pairing: Protection Suzu can save you from CC or cleanse turret damage over time. Kitsune Rush dramatically increases your firing speed and turret’s rate of fire, enabling huge burst.
