Doomfist (Tank) on Eichenwalde in Overwatch 2, specifically when running alongside an Ashe and Torbjörn in your DPS lineup. The guide is divided into general considerations (positioning, pathing, ability usage) and point-by-point strategies (attack/defense). Although these strategies are geared toward higher-level/top 500 play, the underlying principles are relevant at any rank.
1. General Role & Playstyle for Doomfist (Tank)
Engage/Disrupt:
As Doomfist, your primary job is to displace and disrupt the enemy team’s formation so that Ashe and Torbjörn can output consistent damage.
Your mobility is key to drawing attention, poking the backline, and creating space.
Cooldown Cycling:
Efficient use of your abilities is crucial. In top 500 lobbies, opponents react quickly to your engagements; you need to enter, quickly secure value (a knockback, a pick, or force out cooldowns), and exit or re-engage in a different angle.
Power Block management is critical. Blocking enough damage to empower your punch (Rocket Punch) is a high-level priority.
High Ground Control & Flank Denial:
Eichenwalde has multiple high-ground walkways and ledges, especially around choke points and near the castle. Holding or contesting these areas denies flankers from pressuring your Ashe/Torb.
Use Seismic Slam and Rocket Punch to quickly access high ground and surprise poke from angles.
Tank Synergy vs. Self-Sustain:
You still rely on your supports for healing, but Doomfist needs to juggle self-sustain via shield generation from abilities and damage mitigation from Power Block.
Communicate with supports about where/when you plan to dive in. Let them know if you’re going deep so they can time their abilities (Suzu, Harmony Orb, etc.) to keep you alive.
2. Working with Ashe & Torbjörn
Ashe
Sightlines & Off-Angles: Ashe thrives from mid-long range, setting up angles for Dynamite and headshots. Your job is to keep enemies off her vantage points.
Dynamite Follow-Up: If Ashe lands a big Dynamite on clustered enemies, you can immediately engage with Seismic Slam + empowered Rocket Punch to finish off burning targets.
Bob Combos: If Ashe sends Bob into the fight, you can quickly slam in to capitalize on the chaos. Your punch can also knock enemies back into Bob’s line of fire.
Torbjörn
Turret Placement: Torb’s turret is most effective controlling flanks or locked down lanes. By forcing enemies to engage the turret or avoid certain chokepoints, you create predictable movement patterns for your Rocket Punch.
Molten Core Combos: When Torb uses Molten Core to zone, you can block off retreat paths with your Rocket Punch knockback or your presence, trapping the enemy in lava pools.
Armor & Sustain: Torb’s Overload temporarily gives him a bit more sustain, which can help in brawly fights near the payload or on point. Make sure you draw attention so Torb can do consistent damage uncontested.
3. Eichenwalde Attack Strategies
Attacking Point A
Initial Choke (Gateway)
Scout & Decide the Path: Typically, teams hold the front gate or on high ground to the upper left (from attackers’ POV). As Doomfist, consider jumping the choke from the side or from the upper balcony using Seismic Slam to dislodge defenders.
Combo with Ashe Dynamite: If Ashe can get a Dynamite over the choke or onto the high ground, follow up with a slam or punch to secure kills on burning targets.
Clearing High Ground
Left Side High Ground Push: One of the best ways to break Eichenwalde’s first choke is going left side (attacker’s left) through the mini health pack room and up the stairs.
Disrupt the Enemy Backline: If they have an Ana or Bap stationed up top, use your mobility to force them off. This allows your Ashe to take space comfortably and your Torb to position turret effectively near or on point.
Capturing the Point
Once fights are near or on point, your slam–punch combos and turrets can handle squishier targets. Keep an eye out for re-contests. A well-timed empowered punch can send the enemy tank or DPS off the objective or into your Ashe’s sightlines.
Attacking Through Streets (Second Phase)
Payload Progress & Corners
Eichenwalde’s streets phase has narrow streets leading to an open courtyard before the castle doors. Dominate corners: you can quickly punch or slam around them to catch unsuspecting enemies.
Your turret ally (Torb) can set up around corners or behind the payload for crossfire. Meanwhile, Ashe can watch long sightlines down the street or perched on carriage roofs/ledges.
