“The payload doesn’t need a tank. The front line does.”
🎯 Purpose of Role
Mauga is not a backline babysitter or payload escort. His true strength lies in controlling tempo, disrupting setups, and commanding space far ahead of the objective. This strategy is designed to maximize his area denial, self-sustain, and brute force presence to draw pressure, split enemies, and create constant threat.
In this role, Mauga acts as the forward anchor — the tip of the spear.
🧭 Tactical Directives
Ignore Payload Duties
You are not to touch or linger near the payload unless:
The team is regrouping and you’re last alive
You are needed to touch in overtime
A specific shot call demands it
Otherwise, leave cart progression to supports or flank DPS. You are more valuable disrupting enemy rotations than pushing a cart.
Push Forward Early and Often
Take proactive space. Your goal is to force team fights and create pressure zones as far forward from the payload as possible.
Use corners, high-traffic chokes, or natural terrain breaks to anchor.
Don’t wait for fights — start them before enemies are comfortable.
Set the Tempo
You’re the beat that the team plays to. A proactive Mauga controls:
Enemy positioning (forcing them back or to unfavorable flanks)
Cooldown usage (absorbing early ults or abilities)
Sightline denial (preventing their hitscan or snipers from free shots)
Weaponize Your Bulk
You’re hardest to kill when in their face. Don’t sit back.
Chain Overrun, Incendiary/Cage Fight, and Sustain to trap and brawl.
Aim to isolate squishies and cut rotations early.
Use overhealth generation to absorb aggression while your team capitalizes.
Coordinate with Backline
Your supports must keep eyes on you, but don’t over-rely on them. Use self-heal, positioning, and cover abuse. Ping cooldowns as needed but keep pushing the tempo. Your team should play off you — but you must also trust them to escort the payload and follow up.
🗺️ Positioning Principles
Escort Phase (Start of Push):
Move aggressively toward the first choke, setting up fights before the cart crosses the first corner. Force defenders to fall back or burn cooldowns early.
Mid-Map Transition (Bridge/High Ground):
If possible, clear flanking lanes and dislodge snipers or supports trying to peel back. Your job is to fragment their formation while the cart rolls unopposed.
Final Stretch (Before Point C):
Consider baiting cooldowns with overhealth, or calling for DPS ults to break entrenched positions. Don’t stall unless it's absolutely necessary — break their hold from the front.
🧠 Mental Focus Points
You are not the payload.
Start fights — don’t wait for them.
Disrupt, Divide, Dominate.
If you're on fire, you're doing it right. If you're hiding behind the cart, you're not Mauga — you're a wheelbarrow.
🔁 Quick Comms Summary
Situation Callout / Mindset
Cart moving? “I’m pushing up — cover the cart.”
Enemy setting up? “Engaging early. Burn cooldowns now.”
Team hesitating? “Follow me — forcing space now.”
Supports in trouble? “Pinged enemy flank — rotating left.”
Holding too long? “I’m Mauga — I don’t stall. I dive.”
