Description | 1. High Ground Control (Terrain Exploitation)
In traditional warfare, seizing advantageous terrain—like hilltops or ridgelines—gives you better lines of sight and defensive positioning. In Overwatch 2:
Vertical Advantage: Heroes such as Soldier: 76, Ashe, and Widowmaker benefit from firing down onto choke points. They have clearer sightlines, and enemies find it harder to shoot back while climbing or approaching.
Cover & Retreat: Holding high ground typically gives easier access to natural cover (ledges, walls) and allows for quick drops to lower levels when under pressure.
2. Focus Fire (Concentration of Force)
One of the oldest tenets of military success is to concentrate your firepower on key targets to break enemy lines. In Overwatch 2:
Team Shot-Calling: Good teams call out a single target—like a squishy DPS or overexposed support—and focus them down quickly. This is essentially the “concentration of force” in action.
Coordination Over Chaos: Even if you have five or six strong heroes, if they’re not shooting the same target, your overall kill pressure is diluted.
3. Flanking & Disruption (Maneuver Warfare)
Armies often rely on flanking maneuvers to catch the enemy off-guard and disrupt their formations. In Overwatch 2:
Off-Angles & Flanks: Heroes like Genji, Tracer, and Sombra will approach from side paths or behind, forcing the enemy to split attention. This is akin to a real-world pincer movement.
Assassinating Priority Targets: A flanker that eliminates a key support (like an Ana or Baptiste) mirrors how commando raids or infiltration can weaken an opposing force’s supply or morale.
4. Stealth & Recon (Information Warfare)
Real militaries dedicate resources to recon—collecting intel on enemy positions before engaging. Overwatch 2 has its own subtle forms of info-gathering:
Scout Heroes: Sombra can invisibly check where enemies are setting up. Hanzo’s Sonic Arrow or Widowmaker’s Infra-Sight give valuable map awareness.
Pre-Fight Knowledge: If you know exactly what the enemy comp is, you can adjust your approach or position for the best engagement, similar to planning an ambush with superior intel. |
