general strategy guide for taking on Hanzo as Torbjörn in Overwatch 2. Keep in mind that team composition, map, and your personal playstyle will heavily influence your approach, but these tips should help you gain the upper hand.
1. Turret Placement and Positioning
Use Corners and Cover
Torbjörn’s turret is a static defense tool, which makes it vulnerable if placed in open sight of Hanzo.
Position your turret behind corners, on high ground, or slightly off-angle so Hanzo doesn’t have an easy line of sight to quickly destroy it.
Hanzo players rely heavily on lining up shots; forcing them to peek awkward angles or lose time repositioning can help your turret (and team) stay safe longer.
High Ground vs. Low Ground
If possible, place your turret above Hanzo’s typical line of sight. This forces him to use mobility (Wall Climb) to contest it, taking precious time and making his movement more predictable when he challenges your turret.
Your turret’s job is to either pressure Hanzo away from prime sniping spots or force him to fight it out in less favorable positions.
2. Managing Overload and Gunfire
Timing Overload
Overload gives you extra armor and increased fire rate.
Use it when closing distance on Hanzo or when you expect him to unleash Storm Arrows. You’ll have a better shot at surviving multiple arrows and finishing him off before he can line up a critical headshot.
Primary Fire (Rivet Gun, Long-Range Shot)
Torbjörn’s primary fire is a projectile with a slight arc. It’s not easy to land consistently on a moving Hanzo at long range, but well-placed shots can do substantial damage.
Pre-fire corners or aim at predictable strafing patterns if Hanzo is repeatedly peeking the same angle.
Secondary Fire (Shotgun Burst)
If you manage to get close to Hanzo, the shotgun-like alternate fire deals high damage.
Pair a surprise flank or a corner peek with Overload, and you can often burst him down before he can react.
3. Outplaying Hanzo’s Toolkit
Storm Arrows
Hanzo’s Storm Arrows can shred your turret (and you) quickly. If you see or hear him activate Storm Arrows, take cover or pop Overload to withstand the burst if you must duel him.
Try to duck behind cover and let him waste his Storm Arrows on environment or your turret, then re-engage once it’s on cooldown.
Sonic Arrow
Hanzo’s Sonic Arrow reveals enemy positions. If you get pinged by Sonic Arrow, consider repositioning your turret immediately or moving yourself; staying put makes you an easy target for a fully charged headshot.
Dragonstrike
While Dragonstrike can zone you out or push you off an objective, you can often move your turret to safety quickly or set it up again in a safe spot.
Use Overload or map geometry to quickly reposition if you see the arrow or the dragons forming near you. Just make sure you don’t get trapped in small corridors.
