Strategy on Attack
Phase 1: The Open Stretch
Turret Placement
At match start, consider dropping your turret near spawn just before you move out; it can catch overly aggressive defenders trying to hold the spawn door. Once the payload starts moving, relocate your turret.
Place the turret on raised platforms or behind cover so it can see main sightlines but isn’t too exposed. Places like the shipping container roofs or behind the corners near the payload path are great.
Controlling Flanks
Junkertown’s first phase has high ground catwalks on the right side (from the attacker’s POV). Snipers or flankers frequently use these paths.
A turret placed to watch the catwalk approach can force flankers to think twice or at least slow them down for you to react.
Personal Positioning
Stay near the payload or behind natural cover.
Use Overload to brawl if divers (e.g., Tracer, Genji) try to pick you off. With 5v5, your tank might have more trouble covering all angles, so be mindful of your own safety.
Utilizing Molten Core
In the open area, Molten Core can be used to zone out defenders perched high on catwalks or to secure the final push onto the first checkpoint.
You can also shoot the molten pools around corners or onto high ground to force snipers into your team’s line of sight.
Phase 2: The Courtyard & Workshop
Turret Angles
Once the payload moves into the courtyard/workshop area, keep your turret on high ground or corners that cover the main route.
This mid-phase is relatively open as well, but you’ll find more vertical cover inside the building leading to the final checkpoint.
Adaptive Turret Relocation
Move your turret up as your team progresses, but don’t place it too far ahead alone. A turret without your team’s presence can be easily destroyed.
Watch for High-Damage Heroes
Junkertown often encourages hitscan heroes due to the open sightlines. If you see Widowmaker or Ashe consistently sniping your turret, position it behind partial cover and rely on the turret’s arc of fire to engage when enemies peek.
Molten Core
Use it to open space for the payload to move into that tight workshop area. If defenders are holding the high balcony, launch your molten slag to deny them a vantage point or to block the doorway behind them.
Phase 3: Final Foundry Area
Close Quarters Combat
The final stretch is more enclosed. Your turret can become extremely effective at watching corners and shutting down flank attempts.
Place it near corners, catwalks, or perched on the upper ledges so it’s harder to flank.
Team Coordination
Overwatch 2’s single tank means that once you break the defensive line, the defender’s tank might have difficulty re-engaging. Use Overload to sustain a push behind your tank or to punish the lone tank if they overextend.
Molten Core for Last Push
When your team is close to capping, a well-timed Molten Core can seal the deal by covering the payload’s perimeter. Defenders trying to touch or contest have to wade through molten pools, taking massive damage.
