Dorado is a Payload map with three checkpoints—each featuring different sightlines, high ground options, and potential flank routes. While certain fundamentals remain relevant in Overwatch 2, this guide focuses on the original Overwatch (circa version 1.0) considerations.
1. Map & Phases Overview
Dorado has three main phases on Attack:
Phase 1: From Spawn to First Checkpoint
A winding path through a marketplace and under a large archway leading to a courtyard area.
The payload must reach the first checkpoint inside a plaza area (sometimes referred to as the “market” or “archway” area).
Phase 2: Through the Courtyard to the Second Checkpoint
After the first checkpoint, you push the payload through a more open courtyard with multiple high grounds.
This phase ends inside a large open building or “power plant” area (the second checkpoint).
Phase 3: Final Stretch to the End of the Map
A more enclosed environment with catwalks, tight corners, and the final deliver point inside a building near the power generator.
Sightlines become shorter and more vertical near the end.
Widowmaker excels at long- to mid-range engagements, so the first two phases of Dorado usually provide better vantage points. The final stretch is more challenging due to tighter corners and flank-heavy paths.
2. General Widowmaker Tips (Attack)
Secure Early Picks
At the round start, if defenders are peeking from elevated positions, you can sometimes land an early pick to swing the momentum in your favor.
Communicate with your team if you see a vulnerable target—your one-shot potential can quickly shift the fight.
Use High Ground & Off-Angles
Dorado has many rooftops and balconies. Grapple to these perches for a clear line of sight on defenders or the payload route.
Be mindful that defenders might contest these perches, especially with dive tanks or hitscan counters.
Venom Mine for Flank Awareness
Always keep a Venom Mine on a key flank path—doorways, side routes, or corners behind you.
Dorado’s winding streets and multiple alleyways make it easy for flankers to sneak up, so the mine can give you an early warning.
Manage Your Grapple Cooldown
Use Grapple to access vantage points, but also keep it available for a quick escape if you spot a dive hero closing in.
Don’t overextend to a rooftop without an escape plan—if you get caught, you’ll lose precious momentum for your team.
Reposition Regularly
If you stay in one spot too long, the defenders will adjust or send a flanker after you.
After each pick or if you miss a couple of shots and the enemy knows your angle, rotate to a different perch to remain unpredictable.
