Overwatch 1 Torbjörn strategy for Junkertown. This includes recommended turret placement (with upgrade path), armor pack usage, positioning tips, and ultimate timing to help your team secure the payload or defend against enemy pushes.
1. General Junkertown Overview
Long Sightlines: Junkertown features multiple open areas with significant sniper sightlines, especially on Point A. Torbjörn needs to be mindful of enemy snipers (Widowmaker, Hanzo, Ashe) and position his turret out of direct line of fire.
High Grounds & Corners: There are many high ground catwalks and corner angles where Torbjörn’s turret can thrive. Using high ground behind cover allows you to both protect the turret and surprise enemies.
Mobility & Flanks: Junkertown has a few flank routes (particularly on the left or right sides of the map), so you want to watch for flankers such as Tracer or Genji. The turret can serve as an excellent deterrent if placed strategically.
2. Turret Building & Upgrade Strategy
Building & Upgrading the Turret
Build in Safety: Always build your turret (Level 1) in a position where it is not immediately exposed. If you can, start building behind cover or while your tank is holding the front line.
Upgrade to Level 2: Once placed, quickly use your Forge Hammer to upgrade it to Level 2. This is crucial for maximizing its damage output and survivability.
Relocating: Sometimes, especially after a team fight or if you anticipate an enemy push, it’s wise to reposition your turret. It’s often faster to rebuild a new turret and upgrade it again in a better spot rather than let a poorly placed turret get destroyed.
Scrap Collection & Armor Packs: While not directly tied to upgrading your turret, collecting scrap and distributing armor packs is critical in Overwatch 1 Torbjörn’s kit. Keep your team supplied with armor to mitigate chip damage—especially valuable against snipers on Junkertown.
Key Positions per Stage
First Point (Defense)
A popular placement is on the balcony/ledge to the right of the spawn door (defender’s perspective). This lets you shoot down at the attackers while having partial cover from the geometry.
Alternatively, you can place your turret behind the small building on the high ground near the first choke. Enemies pushing the payload have a tough time damaging it unless they specifically rotate or snipe it.
Make sure to keep line of sight minimal, so snipers can’t easily pick it off.
Second Point (After the Payload Enters the Gates)
There’s a high ground catwalk and various corners leading into the foundry area. A turret placed on these upper catwalks can cover large areas and force enemies to use cooldowns or flanking routes to destroy it.
If your team is playing more aggressively, you can even place a turret in a forward corner that watches the payload path—just be prepared to retreat and rebuild if the fight shifts.
